Celebrate the ones you love with this easy Valentine's Day dinner at home!
Celebrating Valentine's Day at home this year? So are we. I actually prefer quiet dinners at home with my family. We just add a few simple touches to help make home celebrations extra special!
You don't have to spend a lot of money or spend all day cooking in the kitchen to create a special Valentine's Day dinner at home. Here's how I created a special romantic dinner for two for under $40. Plus, I've got some ideas for extending the same dinner to feed a family.
What romantic dinner can I make at home?
There are so many different romantic dinner recipes that you can make at home. Valentine's Day often calls for special meals that go beyond our normal everyday dinner routine. Meals like Herb-Crusted Rack of Lamb or Garlic Rosemary Beef Roast.
When I think of Valentine's Day though, my mind almost immediately goes to lobster.
I LOVE lobster, but we don't eat it very often. If you've never made lobster at home before, don't be intimidated. It's actually SUPER EASY to make at home! And, you save so much money by cooking lobster at home.
I purchased everything you see in these photos at my local Safeway. However you're planning to celebrate, they've got you covered! From beautiful flowers and chocolate-covered strawberries to fresh meat, seafood, and produce offerings to create a delicious, romantic meal for the ones you love.
In fact, I bought two lobster tails for just $13.98. If you're feeding a family of four, that's just $28, which is still less money than you would spend at most restaurants for one lobster!
You can boil lobster or grill lobster. But the fastest and tastiest way I like to make it is in the air fryer. The lobster tails only take about 5 minutes of prep time and 5 to 7 minutes in the air fryer. That's it!

Then for the kiddos, you can add it to their favorite mac and cheese to make lobster mac and cheese! For a special side dish, I like to add roasted garlic lemon asparagus.
Easy romantic desserts
Saving money doesn't mean skimping on dessert! Safeway also has fresh chocolate-covered strawberries that make a perfect, easy romantic dessert the whole family will love.
Or, stock up on baking supplies in their baking aisle and make these Pinot Noir Chocolate Chip Brownies, Salted Caramel Chocolate Bars, or this Easy Vegan Chocolate Cake.
Romantic flowers
Set the scene with a dozen gorgeous roses from Safeway for around $10. I buy a bouquet of flowers from Safeway at least once a month. Their flowers are always so fresh, and they do a beautiful job with the arrangements.
Safeway also offers Grocery Delivery and DriveUp & Go™ for convenient ways to shop! While I shopped at my local Safeway, but you can also find quality Valentine’s Day meal essentials at the Albertsons Companies family of stores, including Albertsons, ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Randalls, Shaw’s Supermarket, Star Market, Tom Thumb and Vons.
What wine to serve with Valentine's Day dinner
For the adults in the house, don't forget to pick up some special Valentine's Day wine!
Here's a quick food and wine pairing guide for classic Valentine's Day dinners:
- Lobster - Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, or Riesling.
- Steak - Cabernet Sauvignon
- Heart-shaped Pizza - Pinot Noir
- Shrimp or Scallops - Albariño or Riesling
And of course, Champagne or sparkling wine pairs well with most savory dishes! The wine I paired with this lobster dinner was an Evolution Sauvignon Blanc, which I bought for under $15 at Safeway.
