    Chocolate and hazelnut are such a delicious, classic sweet flavor combination.

    I love making my own homemade chocolate hazelnut spread. Dare I say, it's even better than the store-bought fave Nutella! I use it to drizzle over s'mores skillet cookie (a tasty pizookie!) and over this yummy dairy-free chocolate chip ice cream.

    • Place a thawed sheet of puff pastry on a large cutting board.
    • Apply the chocolate hazelnut spread to it.
    • Cover with a second pastry sheet.

    • Slice into 12 long strips.
    • A pizza cutter works great for this.

    • Gently twist each strip and place on parchment-lined baking sheets.
    • Brush them with the egg wash.

    Equipment

    • 2 Baking Sheets

    Ingredients

    • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1 package (8 ounces) frozen puff pastry, thawed to room temperature
    • ½ cup chocolate hazelnut spread like Nutella
    • 1 egg, lightly beaten, plus 1 teaspoon water to create an egg wash
    Get Recipe Ingredients

    Instructions

    • Preheat the oven to 400°F.
    • Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.

    Make the cinnamon sugar

    • In a small bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon until well combined. Set aside.

    Assemble the twists

    • On a large cutting board, place one of the thawed sheets of puff pastry.
    • Spread the chocolate hazelnut spread over the puff pastry sheet.
    • Then place the second puff pastry sheet on top, aligning the edges of the puff pastry sheets.
    • Using a pizza cutter or knife, slice into 12 long strips.
    • Use your hands to gently twist each strip and place on the prepared baking sheets. You should be able to fit 6 twists onto each baking sheet.
    • Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the entire tops and sides of the twisted dough with the egg wash.
    • Sprinkle cinnamon sugar over each.

    Bake

    • Bake at 400°F for 15-17 minutes, until the tops and sides are a nice golden brown and you can tell the puff pastry is baked the whole way through.

    Notes

    Makes 12 pastry twists.
    Storage: store leftovers (if you have any!) in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. These are best reheated in an air fryer or in the oven. 
    Serving idea: serve with melted chocolate to dip each twist into for extra chocolatey goodness!
