  • You only need five ingredients (plus two optional ingredients if you want to jazz it up even more!).
  • It’s easy to make a non-alcoholic version for friends who want the flavor without the buzz.
  • It makes for a tasty New Year’s Eve or Cinco de Mayo cocktail.
  • This tequila cocktail pairs so well with most Tex Mex dishes and Cinco de Mayo foods!

🍾 Ingredient notes

ingredients to make champagne margaritas

This is one of the easiest margarita recipes! You only need 5 simple ingredients to make this cocktail. Then there are a few optional garnishes if you want to elevate it more.

Tequila – Use your favorite tequila to make this cocktail. I prefer silver tequila (or blanco tequila) as it pairs well with the champagne and doesn’t overwhelm it.

Champagne- For the best flavor, and to celebrate very special occasions, use a brut Champagne. Only sparkling wines made in the traditional method in the Champagne region of France can actually be officially called Champagne; everything else must be labeled as sparkling wine.

Since a true bottle of Champagne does cost more than sparkling wine, you can always substitute your favorite sparkling wine instead.

Orange liqueur – We suggest using Cointreau or Triple Sec, but there are other orange-flavored liqueurs out there. Use your favorite!

Simple Syrup – Use your own homemade Simple Syrup (it’s SO easy to make in a few minutes!) or you could buy simple syrup at most stores.

OPTIONAL: lime wedge or lime wheel and citrus zest salt for a salt rim. For the salt, simply add some lemon or orange zest to your favorite finishing salt and shake or stir to combine. Then coat the rim of the glass.

✅ Step-by-step instructions

Into a large pitcher, pour in the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, Champagne, and simple syrup. Stir to combine, then pour into glasses.

If desired, garnish the rim with citrus zest salt or regular salt, and with a lime slice or wedge.

Serve immediately and enjoy!

❓Recipe FAQs

Can I use regular sparkling wine?

Of course! You don’t have to use official Champagne, you can use any sparkling wine that you love.

How do I make this non-alcoholic?

Substitute non-alcoholic sparkling apple cider, lemon lime soda, or even ginger ale for the Champagne.

Can I make this cocktail ahead of time?

Yes! Feel free to whip up a pitcher the morning of your party and keep chilled in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve. It’s best not to make this more than 6 hours before serving, and be sure to give the mixture a good stir just before serving.

🍹Kitchen tools and equipment

overhead of glass of champagne margarita with lime slices

You really only need one kitchen tool to make this cocktail. No cocktail shaker required!

Large pitcher – You’ll need a large pitcher to mix all of the ingredients together. You can use a large carafe, or even a large bowl if you’re in a pinch.

Glasses – You could serve this delicious cocktail in regular margarita glasses. But I like to serve these in highball glasses. I think the height adds a touch of elegance to the cocktail.
