🍖 What are Pigs in a Blanket?

dozens of Air Fryer Pigs in a Blanket on a plate with side of mustard on a red and white napkin.

Back in the 1600s, laborers used to wrap their meat in dough and bring them to work for lunch.

Pigs in a Blanket are also known by a few other names. In Scotland and parts of England, some people call them Kilted Sausages, which are traditionally served at Christmas dinner.

In the UK, Pigs in a Blanket sometimes refers to small sausages wrapped in bacon, instead of small sausages wrapped in dough.

They became more popular in the United States around the 1950s and 1960s, when they were one of the hottest party appetizers. And this classic party dish is still beloved today!

🥐 Two ingredient recipe!

2 ingredients to make Air Fryer Pigs in a Blanket on a bright blue background.

This awesome crowd-pleasing recipe only requires TWO ingredients!

Crescent roll dough – You’ll need one 8-ounce can/tube of refrigerated crescent roll dough.

Lil’ smokies – make sure you buy the pre-cooked 14-ounce bag of lil’ smokies.

That’s it! Such an awesome budget-friendly party appetizer!

✅ Step-by-step instructions

Line the bottom of your air fryer basket/tray(s) with parchment paper OR spray with non-aerosol oil spray.

Remove the crescent roll dough from the can/tube and unroll. It should be pre-cut into 8 triangles.

Cut each of those 8 triangles into 3 thin triangles (see pic in post for example), ending up with 24 thin triangles total.

Place a sausage at the wide end of one of the triangles and roll up to the tip, gently pressing the dough to seal.

Place the rolled up sausage onto the prepared air fryer basket/tray and repeat with the remaining sausages and dough triangles until they are all rolled up.

Air Fry at 325°F for 4 to 5 minutes, then flip over and air fry on the other side for 3 to 4 more minutes, just until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.

Most of the lil’ smokies you find in the grocery store come pre-cooked, and taste best when heated up (like in this recipe). Make sure the package you buy says “pre-cooked” or “cooked” on the label.

What are little smokies made of?

According to Hillshire Farms, their lil’ smokies are made of pork, chicken, water, and corn syrup. Plus, less than 2% of several other ingredients like salt and beef stock.

What’s the best way to store leftovers?

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in the microwave or air fryer.
