Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil or olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 360°F for about 5 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, wash and peel the potatoes. Chop potatoes into evenly sized fries, about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Place the fries in a large bowl and add cold water, enough to submerse the potatoes. Soak for 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  • After 30 minutes, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels. Try to soak up as much excess liquid as possible; the drier the fries, the crispier they can get in the air fryer!
  • Place the fries back into the bowl and drizzle with avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil. Toss well to ensure all the fries are coated.
  • Sprinkle salt and pepper over the fries and toss again to evenly distribute the spices.
  • Carefully place the seasoned fries in a single layer in the preheated air fryer basket. Take care not to overcrowd the basket. You may need to cook in batches.
  • Cook the fries in the air fryer for 20-25 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes to ensure even cooking. The fries should turn golden brown and crispy.
  • Once cooked, remove the fries from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Makes approximately 4 side dish servings.
NOTE:
  • Cooking times may vary depending on the model of your air fryer.
  • For the best air fryer fries, use a starchy potato like Russet or Yukon Gold.
  • Cut the potatoes into evenly sized pieces so they cook up evenly.
Optional fun seasoning ideas:
  • paprika
  • nutritional yeast for a nutty, cheesy flavor
  • chili powder, paprika, cumin, oregano for a BBQ flavor
  • chopped fresh parsley (sprinkle fresh parsley on after the fries are cooked)
