Preheat your air fryer to 360°F for about 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, wash and peel the potatoes. Chop potatoes into evenly sized fries, about 1/4 inch thick.
Place the fries in a large bowl and add cold water, enough to submerse the potatoes. Soak for 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
After 30 minutes, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels. Try to soak up as much excess liquid as possible; the drier the fries, the crispier they can get in the air fryer!
Place the fries back into the bowl and drizzle with avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil. Toss well to ensure all the fries are coated.
Sprinkle salt and pepper over the fries and toss again to evenly distribute the spices.
Carefully place the seasoned fries in a single layer in the preheated air fryer basket. Take care not to overcrowd the basket. You may need to cook in batches.
Cook the fries in the air fryer for 20-25 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes to ensure even cooking. The fries should turn golden brown and crispy.
Once cooked, remove the fries from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Makes approximately 4 side dish servings.NOTE:
Cooking times may vary depending on the model of your air fryer.
For the best air fryer fries, use a starchy potato like Russet or Yukon Gold.
Cut the potatoes into evenly sized pieces so they cook up evenly.
