🛒 Ingredient notes

You’ll need the ingredients in the photo above to make this seafood and sausage pasta. The exact measurements are listed in the recipe card near the bottom of this post. Here are some tips on some of the main ingredients.

Shrimp – Use large peeled and deveined shrimp. For an even faster pasta dish, use pre-cooked frozen peeled and deveined shrimp and thaw it before cooking.

Sausage – You can use almost any kind of sausage in this recipe. I prefer to use either Italian sausage, chicken sausage, or even bratwurst.

Cajun seasoning – I always have a mason jar with homemade cajun seasoning in our spice drawer and use that in this recipe. You can also use your favorite store-bought Cajun seasoning.

✅ Step-by-step instructions

Here are the step-by-step instructions to help you make this recipe! Full ingredients list and cooking instructions are in the printable recipe card below.

First, cook the pasta according to package directions.

  1. Pat the shrimp dry, then season with salt and pepper. Set aside.

2. Cut three small slits on each side of each sausage link or bratwurst. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes, browning on all sides.

3. Transfer the sausage to a cutting board and slice on the bias into ½-inch thick slices. Return sliced sausage to the skillet.

4. Add the shrimp and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, turning over to just start to get some color on each side.

5. Add the garlic and sauté for 1 more minute.

6. Slowly pour in the cream, then add the butter and parmigiano reggiano cheese.

7. Keep stirring the ingredients together just until the cheese melts. Then turn off the heat.

8. Drain the pasta, and add the pasta to the skillet.

9. Sprinkle in the cajun seasoning and parsley.

10. Add the tomatoes. Toss all of those delicious ingredients together until the pasta is well coated. Finally, squeeze fresh lemon juice over just before serving.

👩🏻‍🍳 Recipe FAQs

Is this dish spicy?

I wrote this recipe to have a slight kick to it, but would not consider it spicy. It is full of warm Cajun spices, which add flavor versus heat.

What type of sausage should I use?

You can use pretty much any sausage you have on hand. Use Italian sausage, bratwurst, chicken sausage, plant-based sausage, pork sausage… whatever your favorite sausage is, use that! As long as it doesn’t have too many flavors and spices in the sausage that would conflict with the Cajun seasoning.

What’s the best way to store leftovers?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze leftovers in a freezer-safe, airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months. To reheat, add a bit of milk or olive oil to “wake up” the sauce, and reheat in a skillet over medium heat on the stove.

🍽 Serving ideas

I really love serving this pasta dish with a big salad and some homemade French bread or Easy Garlic Parmesan Knots.

It’s also delicious with a Simple Fruit Salad or side of veggies, like Air Fryer Broccoli, Mushroom Marsala, or Garlic Lemon Asparagus.

🍷 Wine pairings

Cajun Shrimp Pasta with glass of white wine

I suggest pairing this shrimp and sausage pasta with the same type of wine to pair with our Cajun Shrimp Pasta recipe. You can pair it with a rosé wine, white wine, or red wine!

If you prefer white wine: pair this pasta with a Sauvignon Blanc or a dry Riesling.

If you prefer red wine: pair with a Pinot Noir or Gamay.
