  • The rice cooks along with the pork chops, so it absorbs all of those delicious spices and flavor.

🛒 Ingredient notes

bowls of individual ingredients to make instant pot pork chops and rice on a bright blue background.

You’ll need the ingredients pictured above to make this Instant Pot pork recipe. Here are some notes about a few key ingredients.

Pork – Use bone-in tender pork chops for this recipe. You can also use boneless pork chops, but if you are doing so, you may need to adjust the cook time. Try cooking boneless pork chops for 5 minutes instead, to start.

Rice – You can use almost any rice, but I have found that jasmine rice and long grain white rice work best. Brown rice tends to need just a little more time in the pressure cooker, so keep that in mind if you use brown rice.

Paprika – I add a teaspoon of paprika for some smokiness and a bit of heat. If you like more heat, you could also add chili powder.

✅ Step-by-step instructions

  1. Season the pork chops on both sides with the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Set aside on a plate.
  2. Select the SAUTÉ function or SEAR/SAUTE on your pressure cooker. Once warm, pour the olive oil into the pot.

3. Add the meat and sear for about 2-3 minutes on both sides of the pork chops, just until the outsides are browned. Transfer the pork to a plate and set aside.

4. Pour chicken broth (or water) into the pot.

5. Use a wooden spoon to scrape up any brown bits at the bottom of the pot.

6. Pour the rice into the pot and stir gently to submerge the rice in the liquid.

7. Spray two pressure cooker racks with cooking spray. Place one rack over the rice, then place two pork chops on top of the rack. Place the second rack to fit over the first, and put the two remaining chops on top. See NOTES section for tips.

8. Assemble the pressure lid, making sure the pressure release valve is in the SEAL position. Select PRESSURE or MANUAL, set to HI, and set the pressure cook time to 6 minutes. Select START/STOP or START to begin.

The pressure cooker will take a few minutes to come to high pressure, then start cooking and counting down. When cooking is complete, allow the remaining pressure to natural release for 6 minutes. Then after 6 minutes, do a Quick Release by moving the pressure release valve to the VENT position. Once all of the pressure has been released and the float pin has dropped down all the way, carefully open the lid.

Use tongs or oven mitts to carefully lift the racks out of the electric pressure cooker and plate the pork chops. Use a fork to fluff up the rice, and serve. For the full recipe, see below.

👩🏻‍🍳 Recipe FAQs

Can I cook this without putting the pork on racks?

Technically you can place the pork right on the rice. However, I wouldn’t recommend it. If you have a Ninja Foodi rackInstant Pot rack, or even egg racks, that helps elevate the pork above the rice so that everything cooks evenly and neither gets mushy.

How do I know when pork is done cooking?

Pork is fully cooked when a thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the meat shows an internal temperature of 145°F.

What do I do if my pork isn’t cooked when pressure cooking is done?

The timing in this recipe should work for 4 average size pieces of bone-in pork chops. That said, the final cooking time can vary depending on the thickness of your pork chops and the general size. If you find that your pork hasn’t yet reached 145°F when the pressure cooking is done, you can remove the rice from the pot, then turn your electric pressure cooker to sauté mode, add a tablespoon of olive oil, and sauté your pork chops until they are done cooking.

What’s the best way to store leftovers?

Allow the pork and rice to cool completely, then store the pork separately from the rice in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 or 4 days.

🍳 Kitchen tools and equipment

You can make this recipe in a 6-quart or 8-quart electric pressure cooker.

I’ve made this in both my 8-quart Ninja Foodi Deluxe XL Pressure Cooker and my 8-quart Instant Pot Duo pressure cooker. Do NOT attempt to make this in a mini or 3-quart pressure cooker.

You will also need two racks for the pork chops. I use my Ninja Foodi Deluxe Reversible Racks or these Instant Pot racks, which fit perfectly inside the Instant Pot.

🍽 Serving ideas

Instant Pot Pork Chops and Rice on a white plate with side of greens.

I love that this recipe is a one-pot meal. But you can add some veggies to make it even more well-rounded!

While the pork and rice are pressure cooking, try making a side of Air Fryer Broccoli, Garlic Rosemary Roasted Glazed Carrots, or Mushroom Marsala.

🍷 Wine pairings

Pair pork chops and rice with a Pinot Noir or a Beaujolais. These light bodied red wines go well with lighter meats like pork.

Notes

Pork: Use bone-in pork chops. If using boneless pork chops, reduce the pressure cooking time by 1 minute.
Racks: You will need two racks for this recipe. If you have a Ninja Foodi, use the Deluxe Reversible Rack in the lower steam position for the first set of pork chops. Then add on the Deluxe Layer rack to use for the remaining two pork chops. If you have an Instant Pot or other electric pressure cooker, use two racks that fit inside the pot and nest on top of one another with space in-between, giving the pork chops on the bottom room to cook properly.

I was a little skeptical. But the spices rubbed into the pork and then seared in the instant pot really puts a good flavor in the chop and the rice.

I added a dash of Soy Sauce plus changed the cook time for 7 minutes cook and a 5 minute delay. I have a person whom loves a medium done chop – they were still juicy and yummy.

Simple and lovely. Super duper comfort. Excellent midweek dinner.

I added smoked paprika and rosemary, rubbed the pork chops – 2 chops and used all the seasoning on both side, rubbed yellow mustard on both sides. cook time for 2 chops – 17 mins, 6 min natural release then fast release. Amazing! My husband and I finally found a pork chops recipe I can’t mess up or dry the meat out AND is sooooo good (and simple for me!). Thanks for sharing!
