Whether you're planning Sunday brunch, a gathering for holidays or special occasions, or your next dinner party, a Seacuterie Board will impress and delight guests!

Charcuterie boards are the perfect party food. There's something for everyone!

We love making special twists on the traditional charcuterie board. Like our Thanksgiving Charcuterie Boards, Christmas Charcuterie Boards, and Valentine's Day Dessert Boards. And this Breakfast Board/Brunch Board is always a hit.

But perhaps my personal favorite charcuterie trend right now is the tinned fish trend. And I've decided to turn today's latest craze into a recipe that has timeless potential: a seafood charcuterie board.

🍤 What is a seacuterie board?

seacuterie board with tinned fish, fruits, vegetables, chips, crackers, and garnishes.

Similar to a classic charcuterie board, a seacuterie board has a variety of fruits, vegetables, cheeses, dips, and sauces, all corralled onto one beautiful board.

The main difference with seacuterie is that instead of meat, the focus is on seafood.

And seafood lovers like me will find this easy party appetizer recipe is a delicious dream come true!

    🌟 Why this recipe works

seacuterie board with tinned fish, fruits, vegetables, chips, crackers, and garnishes.

A delicious seacuterie board is sure to be a big hit with friends and family. And it's great for the person making it, too!

    • Easy - This is an easy entertaining recipe that anyone can put together. From beginning cooks or people who don't even like to cook to professional chefs -- this recipe is for you!
    • Versatile - Charcuterie platters - or, in this case, a beautiful platter of seafood - are the perfect party food because you can use a wide variety of ingredients and focus on your favorites.
    • Beautiful and delicious - Because you get to choose all of what you love and none of what you don't love, you can create an awe-inspiring platter that is both gorgeous to look at and delicious to eat.

    🛒 Ingredient notes

A good seacuterie board is a balance of sweet and salty flavors, and soft and crunchy textures. The basic seacuterie has the following basic elements:

    • Seafood
    • Fruits
    • Vegetables
    • Cheeses
    • Carbs
    • Dips and sauces
    • Flavor garnishes
    carrots, lettuce, grapes, onions, cucumbers.

Here are some examples of ingredients to include:

Seafood - A seacuterie board is one of the best ways to hop on the tinned fish trend! I love including a mix of tinned fish on seafood boards: black cod, octopus, salmon, tuna. Other good seafood options include cooked cold shrimp cocktail, crab legs, crab claws, and smoked salmon.

Fruits - Consider adding a few fruits that complement seafood by adding a little sweetness and color. Green grapes, olives, apple slices are all great choices.

Vegetables - A small bowl of seaweed salad would be perfect to go with your seacuterie! Also add sliced vegetables to add crunch and color, like carrots, cucumbers, radishes, broccoli, and pickled red onion. Butter lettuce cups are also great for people to use to create mini seafood wraps.

Cheeses - Unlike a traditional charcuterie board, you'll want to go lighter on the cheese options. Stick with one or two different cheeses. Add one soft cheese, like cream cheese, and one hard cheese, like Gruyere or Gouda.

Carbs - Little crackers are the perfect crunchy vehicle for enjoying bites of seafood. I love pita crackers, potato chips, and classic water crackers.

Nuts - There are so many great nuts that work on seacuterie boards. Almonds, hazelnuts, and cashews are all great options.

Dips and sauces - Consider 2 to 3 of your favorite dips and spreads, such as fish spreads, crab dip or other seafood dips. For sauces, tartar sauce, hot sauce, and cocktail sauce are all tasty accompaniments to seafood.

Flavor garnishes - Finish off the board with thoughtful garnish options, such as sesame seeds, chopped dill, cilantro leaves, and finishing salts.

    ✅ Step-by-step instructions

To create the best seacuterie board, here's a photo step-by-step. Detailed instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

    1. Start by placing tinned fish on the board.
    2. Then add anything in a small bowl, along with a few veggies.
    3. Start filling in with more items in small bowls and cheese cubes.

    4. Start placing the carbs and nuts on the board, away from watery fruits and veggies or other items that might make the crackers or chips soggy.

    5. Add any remaining seafood, fruits, carbs, and veggies.

    6. Finish off you beautiful seafood board by placing small appetizer forks, spoons, and cheese knives in appropriate spots on the board.

    👩🏻‍🍳 Recipe FAQs

Can I make a seacuterie board ahead of time?

You can prep some of the items, but because you want to serve the seafood fresh, it's best to wait to add the main ingredients until just before serving.

What elements of a seafood board can I prep ahead of time?

You can chop or slice vegetables, fruit, and cheeses, then store in the refrigerator until you are ready to assemble the board. You can also place shelf-stable items such as nuts and chips in small bowls, ready to be added when you assemble the board.

    🍽 Serving ideas

Encourage guests to use the crackers and the lettuce cups as vehicles for creating mini appetizers from ingredients on the seafood charcuterie board.

For example, in the photo above, we've got a pita cracker topped with cream cheese and some tinned black cod, garnished with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

    🍷 🥂 Wine pairings

Seafood typically pairs well with white wine, but can also be lovely with a rosé or a lighter bodied red wine.

Try serving Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, a pale rosé, or a Gamay or Pinot Noir with a seacuterie platter.
