🛒 Ingredient notes
Asparagus - I prefer grilling thinner stalks of asparagus, but if you like thicker stalks you can certainly use those. Just be sure to adjust the cook time by a minute or so if you use thicker asparagus stalks. Be sure to trim the thick ends off.
Herbs - I love using basil and oregano on asparagus. You could also use dill, thyme, rosemary, or even a bit of tarragon.
✅ Step-by-step instructions
- In a medium bowl, mix together the olive oil, garlic, herbs, and salt and pepper.
2. Place a few stalks of asparagus on the middle of each piece of foil.
3. Brush the asparagus with the butter herb mixture.
4. Place a few cubes of butter over the asparagus in each piece of foil. Squeeze the juice from one lemon wedge over the asparagus and place the remaining wedge next to the asparagus.
5. Close the foil packets like an envelope, leaving a small opening to allow the air to circulate.
6. Grill over medium-high heat for about 9 to 12 minutes, just until the asparagus turns a bright green.
Serve with additional lemon wedges.
👩🏻🍳 Recipe FAQs
No. It does not need to be. However, you can blanch your asparagus before grilling if you wish. Some people believe blanching helps asparagus remain crispy during the grilling process.
Asparagus will take on a brighter green color when it's fully cooked. The spear tips will also start to take on some light browning or light char.
We highly recommend trimming the ends, since they tend to be tough and woody -- they're not much fun to try to bite into! Trim the lighter-colored, woody asparagus stalks, about one to two inches off the ends, right before the stalks start to be fully green.
