This air fryer cabbage recipe is easy, requires just 5 ingredients, and is done in about 15 minutes! A great vegetable side dish with big Asian umami flavors.

Cabbage often doesn’t get the credit it deserves. It’s often a supporting vegetable, included within other recipes like Summer Slaw or Chicken Yakisoba.
But cabbage can be an amazing side dish star on its own! This leafy green vegetable is low in calories, high in fiber, and rich in vitamins C and K. And, it can be downright delicious as a stand-alone side. Especially when made in the air fryer.
Once it hits the air fryer, the edges get golden and crisp while the center stays tender and almost buttery. Air frying transforms cabbage into something you will most definitely want to make on repeat.

Ingredient notes

You only need a few basic ingredients to make this!
- Green Cabbage – Green works best for crisp edges and mild sweetness
- Olive oil – Use your favorite extra virgin olive oil to help with browning and flavor
- Soy sauce – This adds that rich umami flavor and gives this cabbage an Asian twist.
- Garlic powder – This adds savory depth without burning; minced fresh garlic would burn.
- Ground ginger – This adds a bit of zing to every bite and helps enhance the Asian flavoring with the soy sauce.
- Kosher salt & black pepper – Simple seasoning to enhance the natural sweetness of the cabbage

Recipe Tip
If you like crispier, slightly charred cabbage, leave it in the air fryer for about 12-13 minutes.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, but it will be slightly less crisp and more earthy in flavor.
Be sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket. Overcrowding the basket traps steam and prevents crisping.
Air fryer cabbage is best served warm and fresh from the air fryer. However, you can store the cabbage in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 375°F for 2-3 minutes.
Serving suggestions

This air fryer cabbage is perfect as a simple side with roast chicken or pork chops.
More serving ideas:
- You can also tuck it into teriyaki salmon quinoa bowls or chicken teriyaki rice bowls.
- Slice the wedges thinner and it’s great to add shrimp tacos for a warm, crunchy layer.
- Top it with a fried chili crisp egg for an easy lunch.
- Serve alongside pan-seared salmon, grilled bratwurst, or Chinese braised chicken.

🍷 🥂 Wine pairings

Unoaked chardonnay – this dry white wine’s fresh apple notes and soft texture complement the cabbage’s sweetness without overpowering it.
Dry riesling – bright acidity and subtle citrus lift the savory, lightly charred flavors of the dish.
