Hotel Storchen Zürich is a 650+ year-old 5-star boutique hotel in the heart of Old Town Zürich, Switzerland. With a Michelin Key for the hotel and a Michelin Star for the hotel restaurant, La Rotisserie, you’ll love the warm hospitality this historic hotel has to offer.

In the heart of Zürich’s Old Town, on the banks of the River Limmat, sits the historic Storchen Zürich Hotel. With its pastel salmon facade and the steeple of St. Peter’s Church peeking above the rooftop, this 5-star boutique hotel has been a staple in Zürich for more than 650 years.
Growing up just outside of Zürich, Alain has always been curious about the Storchen Hotel. So when we had the chance to stay here at the end of our recent Switzerland travels and France travels, we took it!
I used points for a one-night stay, and upon entering the hotel, I immediately wished we were able to stay for longer. Storchen Zürich is truly an unforgettable experience from the moment you step through the doors to check in until the moment you check out.

About the Storchen Hotel

Hotel Storchen Zürich is the only hotel that sits right on the banks of the River Limmat, which runs through the city. Located in Old Town right next to St. Peter’s Church and across from Grössmunster Church, it’s perfectly situated for guests who want to explore the city by foot, tram, or train.
This historic landmark in the city center has been serving 5-star hospitality for more than 650 years. With one Michelin Key for hospitality and one Michelin Star for its restaurant, La Rotisserie, the hotel is known for its warm, welcoming, accommodating hospitality. This is a place where every guest is made to feel like a VIP.
How to get to Hotel Storchen

From Zürich airport, you have three main options to get to Hotel Storchen Zurich.
Train, then tram (or walk)
I recommend taking the train and tram (or walk) into the city. Swiss trains and Zürich city trams are very easy to navigate, and the total travel time from the airport is only about 20-25 minutes.
- Take the direct SBB train from Zürich Flughafen station to Zürich Hauptbahnhof (HB) (main station). This takes about 10 minutes with trains running every 10 minutes.
- From Zürich HB, you can walk about 10–15 minutes through the Old Town to the hotel. Or, you can take a short tram/walk connection directly toward Weinplatz / Storchengasse.
Hotel car
For approximately CHF 150, you can arrange a direct pick-up with the Storchen Zürich Concierge to have a hotel driver meet you at the airport.
Uber/Taxi
A taxi ride from Zurich airport to the hotel takes approximately 15 minutes and costs between CHF 70 and CHF 90. Taxis wait directly outside Arrivals 1 and 2 at Zurich Airport.
Welcome gifts

I’ll admit: I’m a sucker for welcome gifts in hotel rooms and suites. And Hotel Storchen Zürich sets out some of the best I have seen in my 30+ years of luxury travel.
We were welcomed with a complimentary bottle of wine from the parent company’s vineyard. It was set next to a tray of welcome treats, including a savory crisp and quartet of gourmet desserts.
Bedrooms and bathrooms

There are 64 rooms and suites at Hotel Storchen Zürich across five floors.
- Double and Queen bed rooms without views range from $680 – $850 USD per night.
- Deluxe & Riverside Rooms average around $975 – $1,210+ USD per night.
- Suites from $1,102 to $1,350+ USD per night.
We stayed in a Riverside room that was spacious for a Zürich city hotel.

It had a spacious modern bathroom, desk area by one of the windows, comfortable seating area near another window, bench seating area in the wall opposite the bed, a small alcove for the closet, and one of the most comfortable king beds I’ve ever slept in at a hotel.
But what I absolutely fell in LOVE with about the room, what I still dream about to this day, is the unparalleled view the Riverside rooms offer.
The view

Our room was on the top floor, the 5th floor, with a view of the River Limmat, the Niederdorf, and the iconic Grössmunster Church. Unfortunately, during our visit, the church was undergoing renovations (scheduled to be completed by 2028). To the left of the hotel, one of the main bridges was also undergoing massive construction.
However, I was impressed that we didn’t hear any of the construction when the windows were closed. It was only when the windows were open that we heard the construction, and even then, it simply sounded like general city noise.

I loved watching the sun set and rise against the city skyline and the River Limmat. If you can afford one of the Riverside Rooms, or one of the Suites with a river view, I highly recommend you book those rooms. They are absolutely worth it!
Amenities

Our room was also equipped with a beverage refrigerator with chilled liquor, wine, additional water, and sodas for purchase. There was also a beverage drawer with complimentary coffees and teas, plus additional snacks for purchase.
Like most 5-star hotels, the Hotel Storchen offers guests a plush comfortable robe to wear during your stay, plus disposable slippers that you may take with you.
Dining options in Hotel Storchen

Unfortunately, Alain and I did not have a chance to dine at Hotel Storchen’s One Michelin Star restaurant, La Rotisserie. When I searched for a reservation online one month prior to our stay, the restaurant was all booked up. I look forward to dining here on a future visit to Zurich!
Guests here may enjoy a breakfast/brunch at the restaurant. This is included in some rooms but not in others, so be sure to add that onto your reservation if you wish.
In addition to the main restaurant, Hotel Storchen also has a seasonal rooftop bar & restaurant, as well as a cigar bar.
Parting gifts for guests

The warm hospitality extends to guest check-out as well. Each guest is given a parting gift, which changes from time to time. Our parting gift was a jar of gourmet finishing salts made with herbs from the parent company’s property. Such a fitting parting gift for us foodies!
Book a stay at the Storchen Hotel Zurich

We truly loved our overnight stay at Hotel Storchen Zürich. In addition to the stunning river view, convenient location, and comfortable bed and beautiful room, the hospitality at this 5-star Swiss hotel is one of the best you’ll find.
From the moment we came clumsily crashing into the cozy hotel lobby from the pouring rain, after discovering our luggage did not make it to Zurich (our luggage decided to extend its vacation in Nice, France!), we were greeted with a warm, friendly welcome that continued throughout our stay. The staff here go above and beyond to make each guest feel like they are home, and I appreciate this level of kindness and warmth in hotel hospitality so much.
Book a stay at Hotel Storchen Zürich. It’s a 5-star, Michelin Guide Key experience you will never forget.
