Cocina del Mar restaurant is seaside dining at its finest. With stunning sunset sea views, this beautiful restaurant carved into the edge of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico offers swoonworthy gourmet dishes, impeccable hospitality, and special touches that make dining here true moments to remember.

Stunning seaside views. Warm and welcoming hospitality. Thoughtfully prepared and absolutely mouthwatering memorable dishes.
If you’re looking for a truly special fine dining experience in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Cocina del Mar is my number one recommendation.
Even if the special occasion is that it’s Tuesday and you’re out of office. Make the reservation here! You will not regret it.
Alain and I dined at Cocina del Mar for a recent birthday dinner. From the moment we made the reservations to the final glimpses of the property in the rearview mirror of our Uber, the amazing staff at Cocina del Mar made sure we had a dinner to remember.
Here’s a look at our experience in this full restaurant review. Get ready to book those plane tickets and make a reservation, because this is one restaurant that is at the top of the To Do list for Cabo San Lucas.

About Cocina del Mar

You’ll find Cocina del Mar inside the Esperanza resort, along the Tourist Corridor, about midway between downtown Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.
The restaurant sits dramatically on cascading terraces above two private beaches, with tables facing the open sea.
Getting there is refreshingly easy. From downtown Cabo San Lucas: hop in a taxi or Uber and you’ll be there in roughly 15 to 20 minutes along the scenic coastal highway. If you’re staying elsewhere along the Corridor or in San José del Cabo, expect a similar short hop.
Driving yourself? Esperanza resort offers free parking and valet parking on the property.
Dinner at the edge of the continent

I am still swooning over the sunset views at Cocina del Mar, which are unlike any other sunset sea views.
Entering the Esperanza resort, you walk in past a buzzing, lantern-lit bar and lounge. Then you descend, through the bar area, terrace by terrace, down toward the water. Close to the waves, you’re seated above white-capped surf smashing against the rocks below. Here, the salt air is thick enough to taste. And at golden hour, the horizon stretches out in every shade of orange, pink, and deep blue as the sun drops into the Pacific.
✨ Pure magic. ✨

Pro Tip
Build in a little extra time before your reservation. With swaying palm trees and ocean-view walkways, the resort itself is part of the experience, and you don’t want to rush the descent down to the restaurant.
Libations

The bar and lounge up top is worth lingering in before you even sit down for dinner (see my pro tip above!).
The cocktail program leans into regional ingredients and local spirits. Think mezcal and tequila reimagined with tropical fruit, smoked salts, and herbal infusions that taste like someone bottled the Baja coastline.

If you’re wine lovers like we are, pair dinner with something off the impressive yet approachable wine list. We ordered a bottle of rosé wine from Provence, which paired beautifully with our entire meal.
A crisp Sauvignon Blanc would also go well with the seafood-forward menu.
Baja on a plate

Dining here, you are treated to some of the best cuisine Cabo has to offer.
The Cocina del Mar kitchen sources from the Sea of Cortez and local farms, and you can taste the difference immediately. Vegetables were vibrant, crisp, and fresh. The seafood tasted like it jumped onto our plates from the sea, and they were prepared beautifully.
Warning: it will be hard to decide what to order. If you are like me or like Alain, you will want it all. Because I could honestly have ordered any dish on the menu and I am fairly certain I would have left with an equally happy tummy. Every single dish sounded amazing.
Alas, make decisions, we did, and here is a look at the beautiful bounty we enjoyed during our dinner at Cocina del Mar.
Blue fin tuna

We started with the Blue Fin Tuna ($754 MXN). Expertly sashimi’d on top of a light sauce of tamarind, drizzled with sesame oil, then topped with cilantro, radish, cucumber, and jalapeño, this was a light, refreshing way to start the meal.
Other starter options I saw that looked amazing included the oysters and wild blue shrimp.
Seafood stunners

Being right on the sea, it’s no surprise that seafood reigns supreme here at Cocina del Mar. And while their starters are beautiful, where the sea’s treasures shine here are in the stunning seafood main courses.
Red Snapper ($1,364 MXN) : Grilled with an ahi chile beurre blanc, corn furikake, and chives.

Catch of the Day ($1,329 MXN): Whatever fish the boats brought in that morning is often finished in the wood-fired oven with a crackling, caramelized crust as the Catch of the Day. Mine was served over a black lentil stew with smoked sweet chorizo, plantain, and cilantro.
Delectable desserts

We don’t often order dessert when we dine out, except for tasting menus, but since it was my birthday and we were traveling, we made an exception. It was the right choice!
We ordered a chocolate cake with pistachio quenelle ice cream that was presented artfully, and tasted fantastic.
And if that dessert weren’t enough. . .
Celebration central

We also received a fun surprise birthday dessert from Cocina del Mar!
If you’re celebrating an anniversary, honeymoon, or birthday like I was, mention it when you book your reservation. The Cocina del Mar team is known for sending out a little something extra, like this special birthday dessert accompanied by a fun fireworks candle. It was such a wonderful way to celebrate!
Fireworks

And as if the fireworks at the table weren’t enough, my birthday happened to fall on a Wednesday this year. And on Wednesdays (as of press time), fireworks light up the skies over the sea right in front of the restaurant
It’s truly a spectacular fireworks show and such a special way to cap the evening at Cocina del Mar.
If seeing the fireworks is important to you, when you book your reservation, be sure to ask for the current schedule. Timing can shift seasonally, and there are some weeks when they may not be set off for a variety of reasons.
If there is any chance of catching it, then request a terrace table facing the open water so you’ve got an unobstructed view when the sky lights up over the sea.
Best Time to Dine

For the full sunset-to-stars effect, book dinner right around sunset. Depending on the time of year, this can typically be a 5:30 or 6 p.m. seating. That gets you golden hour as you’re seated, with the sky shifting through its full color show by the time your appetizers land. And, you’ll be near the end of your dinner as the fireworks show starts.
If sunset tables are gone, a slightly later reservation still gets you the cliffside drama under string lights and a star-strewn sky.
If you’re more of a daytime person, a long, lazy lunch here is its own kind of magic. The water is impossibly turquoise in full sun, and it’s a more relaxed, casual-elegant vibe than the candlelit dinner crowd.
Cocina del Mar restaurant FAQs
Yes, and book well in advance — ideally a few weeks out, especially for sunset seatings. This is one of the most in-demand restaurants in Los Cabos, and tables disappear fast.
Every seat at Cocina del Mar has a view most restaurants would kill for, but if you want the absolute best, then ask for a table on one of the lower terraces, closest to the water. Request your seating preference when you reserve. This place books up fast, and the good tables go even faster.
The vibe is “resort elegant”. Think breezy linen, a flowy sundress, elevated resortwear. You don’t need a blazer, but you’ll feel out of place in flip-flops and a tank top. Aim for something that would look good in a sunset photo, because trust me, you’re going to want that photo!
No. Cocina del Mar welcomes outside diners, though resort guests may have an easier time snagging prime reservation windows. Anyone can book a table.
It’s more suited to a romantic or special-occasion crowd than a family dinner with young kids, but I think older kids would be fine dining here for dinner. If you’re traveling with younger children, lunch is a more relaxed option than the candlelit dinner service.
Dine at Cocina del Mar

Cabo has no shortage of stunning views and good seafood. But Cocina del Mar stacks the waves, the wood-fired smoke, the sunset, the cocktails, and the surprise burst of fireworks into one single, ridiculously photogenic evening.
Book the table. Order the seafood. Watch the sky catch fire over the water.
You’ll be telling people about this dinner long after the trip is over. We still are!
