🥖 Ingredient notes
French bread - You can either use homemade French bread or storebought. Try my Easy Homemade French Bread recipe -- it's the one I use, and the one you see in these photos!
Sauce - Use your favorite homemade pizza sauce or storebought pizza sauce. You can mix it up and use a marinara sauce, pesto sauce, BBQ sauce... so many delicious possibilities!
Cheese - Use your favorite shredded cheese. I love making French bread pizza in the air fryer because I can use regular Italian-style shredded cheese on my kids' and husband's pizzas, and my favorite dairy-free mozzarella shreds on my pizza!
Toppings- Feel free to use any of your favorite pizza toppings here! My family loves the classics: plain cheese and pepperoni. I love to branch out and load up my French bread pizzas with veggies, shrimp, and chicken. ❓ Recipe FAQs
The steps in this recipe help create a crusty, crisp French bread pizza. We prevent the bread from getting soggy by brushing the bread with olive oil, then air frying on its own first. This locks in a layer of crispness before adding sauce and toppings to air fry a second time.
Reportedly, French bread pizza was invented in Ithaca, New York in 1960. It was originally called Poor Man's Pizza.
Allow the pizza to cool, then store in airtight containers or in aluminum foil in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place in the air fryer and air fry at 375°F for 2 to 3 minutes, until the bread is warmed up to your liking. You can also reheat pizza in the microwave on HI in 30-second increments.

I've used four different types of air fryers, and my favorite and current air fryer is the Ninja Foodi 10-quart Dual Zone Air Fryer (pictured above). You can use either the basket-style air fryer or tray-style air fryer for this recipe.

🥗 What to serve with French bread air fryer pizza
All you need to make a full meal with French bread pizza is to add some Air Fryer Broccoli, a Simple Fruit Salad, or umami-rich Mushroom Marsala.
You could also serve it with a big nutritious salad or a bowl of soup!
🍷 Best wine pairings
Pizza pairs great with a glass of Pinot Noir or a Gamay. The lower tannins and slightly lighter body of those wines will complement and not overpower the pizza flavors.
