If you’re looking for a flavorful sauce that wakes up even the sleepiest salad, you’ve gotta make this Vegan Green Goddess Dressing.

Green goddess dressing is about pure fresh abundance. Abundant herbs, abundant flavor, abundant personality.

Traditionally rich and creamy, it was born in California kitchens where fresh herbs weren’t garnish, they were the main character. My vegan version keeps that spirit alive, leaning into vibrant greens and bold aromatics while swapping in plant-based ingredients that let the herbs truly shine.

I like to keep a jar in the fridge and use it as a dressing, dip, and sauce throughout the week. It helps make those busy weeknight meals feel more intentional, more colorful, and a little bit more delicious.

Why you’ll love this family favorite recipe!

What makes this dressing special is its balance and simplicity.

  • It’s lush without being heavy, bright without being sharp.
  • The recipe is so easy to make in just 2 steps.
  • It’s fast: whip this delicious dressing or dip up in just about 10-15 minutes.
  • Versatility is the name of the green goddess game: use it as a salad dressing, vegetable or chip dip, sauce for nourishing bowls.

Ingredient notes

bowls of ingredients to make vegan green goddess dressing

You only need a few simple, wholesome ingredients to make this dressing and dip!

  • Parsley – This is the main herb that makes this vegan green goddess dressing really stand out! Use flat leaf parsley, also sometimes labeled as Italian parsley, for the best texture.
  • Cilantro – You can substitute basil for cilantro. You can also substitute a combination of basil, tarragon, and dill.
  • Avocado – adds creaminess to the dressing and thickens it up to be perfect as a dip. If you want a thinner dressing, you can either skip the avocado or just use half.
  • Olive oil – Use Extra Virgin Olive Oil for the best flavor.
  • Lemon juice & lemon zest – Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor. Using both the juice and the zest add a bright finish to the dressing.
  • Garlic – The recipe calls for two cloves, but you can use only one clove if you prefer a lighter garlic flavor.
  • Salt & pepper – season to taste.

Recipe Tip

This recipe makes a slightly thicker dressing that’s also fantastic as a dip. For a thinner dressing, either eliminate or reduce the amount of avocado and slightly increase the amount of oil and lemon juice.

Recipe FAQs

What herbs can I use in this vegan green goddess dressing?

One of the best things about this recipe is its versatility! Use your favorite fresh herbs. You can use a mix of parsley, cilantro, basil, dill, tarragon, and/or thyme.

What’s the best way to store leftovers?

Store this dressing/dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.

Can I freeze this green goddess dressing?

I would not recommend freezing this. The oils coagulate and the sharpness of the herbs gets lost. The thawing process also leaves a dressing with odd mouthfeel and texture that is not pleasant compared to when you enjoy this fresh.

Serving suggestions

This vegan green goddess dressing is excellent on salads like our Asian Carrot Cucumber Salad and Thai Chicken Salad. But that’s only the beginning!

Made slightly thicker (as seen in the photos here), it can double as a dip for crudités or a spread for sandwiches. Made slightly thinner, it’s a great spoon-over sauce for grain bowls like our California Sushi Bowl.

It’s also great drizzled over Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Carrots or Air Fryer Broccoli.
