🛒 Ingredient notes

- Flour - I've only used all-purpose flour, so I can't guarantee this recipe will work with gluten-free flour or other flours. If you do decide to try a different type of flour, please leave a comment below and let us know how it turned out!
- Baking powder and baking soda - these help the donuts rise.
- Cinnamon - ground cinnamon in the batter helps add to that classic churro flavor.
- Salt - to balance the sweetness of the sugars.
- Butter - Be sure to use unsalted butter, and take it out of the refrigerator about 30 minutes before you start making the donuts. You want to be sure the butter creams easily, otherwise your batter will not be smooth and your donuts won't have the same fluffy texture. You will also need an additional 3 tablespoons of melted butter to use for coating the donuts after they are baked.
- Oil - Speaking of fluffy texture, we add a bit of vegetable oil to make them softer and fluffier than most donuts.
- Sugars - Using both granulated sugar and light brown sugar to the batter creates a balanced sweetness.
- Milk - You can use almost any milk, dairy or non-dairy, that you prefer. However, you will get a fluffier donut if you use whole milk compared to 2% or skim milk.
- Vanilla - vanilla extract gives the donuts that undeniable bakery smell and flavor.
- Cinnamon sugar - the recipe card below gives you measurements in the Notes section for general measurements. I always have a jar or cinnamon sugar in our pantry on hand.
Optional Chocolate Drizzle
- Semi-sweet chocolate plus coconut oil - melted together, this gives you a delicious chocolate dip or drizzle.

👩🏻🍳 Recipe FAQs

Churros are a popular snack of fried dough coated with cinnamon sugar. Instead of frying the dough, we bake the dough for this recipe. Same great churro flavor, without the excess oil.
Store donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. After that, the texture will start to change and the toppings will seep into the donuts.
🍽 Serving ideas

As you can see, our preferred way of serving these delicious churro donuts is with a chocolate drizzle, which you can also use as a chocolate dip.
Other ideas:
- Top with a caramel drizzle
- Sprinkle chopped nuts, such as hazelnuts or peanuts
- Top with a maple glaze
- Add some fun sprinkles to the cinnamon sugar
These donuts are the perfect companions for your morning cup of coffee or tea.
🍳 Kitchen tools and equipment

Ready to make this recipe? Here are the kitchen tools and equipment you'll need:
- Stand mixer - Any stand mixer will do, but I swear by my Kitchenaid mixer. If you don't have a stand mixer, you can also use a large mixing bowl with a hand mixer.
- Mixing bowl - You'll need a large mixing bowl and whisk to mix the dry ingredients together first.
- Piping/patry bag - A piping bag with large circle tip makes creating beautifully round donuts so much easier.
- Donut pans - These are the donut pans I have loved and used for decades. They are still working perfectly!
- Cooling rack - Use a cooling rack with parchment paper underneath to catch excess toppings.

- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup light brown sugar
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs, at room temperature
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Toppings
- 3 Tablespoons melted butter
- 1 cup cinnamon sugar (see Notes)
Optional chocolate glaze
- ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease two baking pans. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside these dry ingredients for later.
- Using a stand mixer (or in a large bowl using a hand mixer), cream the softened butter for 1-2 minutes, until creamy.
- Add the granulated sugar and light brown sugar, and cream together with the butter for 2-3 more minutes, until well combined and creamy.
- Beat in the vegetable oil, then the eggs, milk, and vanilla. Then add the milk. Cream until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until the ingredients are well combined. Take care not to over-mix in this step.
- You can then either scoop the batter into a piping bag and pipe the batter into the donut pans. Or, you can simply spoon the batter into the donut pans. Try to use an even amount for each donut.
- Bake at 350°F for 12-15 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center of a donut comes out clean.
- Dip a donut lightly into the melted butter. Then immediately dip it into the bowl of cinnamon sugar, coating both sides. Repeat with remaining donuts.
Optional chocolate glaze
- In a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate and the coconut oil in a microwave in 30-second intervals, just until melted, whisking in between intervals.
- After coating the donuts in the cinnamon sugar, you can serve them next to the bowl of melted chocolate for people to dip donuts into. Or, you can transfer the melted chocolate to a small piping bag or a small ziplock bag with one corner cut, and drizzle lines of melted chocolate over the donuts.
