Ready for a spooky-fun time this Halloween? Make these Halloween Mummy Hot Dogs!

Halloween is all about creative costumes, spooky decorations, and, of course, fun-themed foods! We’ve got a ton of Halloween recipes on the blog; most of them are desserts.

But if you’re looking for a simple yet ghoulishly-good savory dish that will delight (not fright!) both kids and adults, these mummy dogs are a perfect choice.

Halloween Mummy Hot Dogs are a playful twist on the classic “pigs in a blanket” dish (check out our air fryer pigs in a blanket recipe).

Instead, hot dogs are wrapped in crescent roll dough to mimic the look of mummies. We add cute little candy eyeballs to add to the Halloween effect.

Whether you’re hosting a Halloween party, getting ready for a night of trick-or-treating, or just looking to add some seasonal flair to your dinner, this recipe is sure to be a hit.

🛒 Ingredient notes

ingredients to make mummy dogs: hot dogs, pizza dough, and candy eyes.
  • Hot dogs – Use your favorite hot dogs.
  • Pizza crust dough – Refrigerated storebought pizza dough that comes in a tube is perfect!
  • Candy eyes – You’ll find candy eyeballs in most grocery stores in the baking aisle. But you can also find them online. I use ketchup to secure the candy eyes to the hot dogs, but you can also use mustard.

That’s it! Just three simple ingredients!

✅ Step-by-step instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  1. Roll out the refrigerated pizza crust dough onto a cutting board and use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut into straight 1/2″ thick strips.
  2. Roll one strip around a hot dog, leaving some parts of the hot dog exposed to look like a mummy, especially one larger exposed hot dog area toward one end for the eyes.

2C. Repeat this with all the remaining hot dogs.

3. Place assembled mummy dogs onto the prepared baking sheet and bake at 375°F for 13-17 minutes, just until the tops of the dough are golden brown.

4. Using a toothpick, place a small dot of ketchup on the back of a candy eye and place on an exposed part of the hot dog toward one end. Repeat with another to make two eyes.

👩🏻‍🍳 Cooking tips and recipe FAQs

mummy dogs - hot dogs wrapped in pizza dough - stacked on a white plate.
Can I use crescent dough instead of pizza dough?

Absolutely! Crescent roll dough will give you a softer, flakier texture compared to pizza dough, but both are delicious.

Can I make the mummy dogs ahead of time?

Yes! You can assemble the Mummy Dogs up to a day in advance and store them in the refrigerator. Just bake them when you’re ready to serve.

What’s the best way to store mummy dogs?

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for the best texture.

🍽 Creative twists on the classic

While the easy recipe is a crowd-pleaser, there are several ways to add your unique spin on mummy dogs:

  • Cheesy Mummies: Before wrapping the hot dog, add a slice of cheese to the inside for a gooey surprise.
  • Spooky Seasonings: Sprinkle the dough with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, or even a bit of paprika for extra flavor.
  • Vegan Mummies: Use vegan hot dogs and pizza dough to create a plant-based version that’s just as delicious.

🍷 🥂 Wine pairings

If you’re serving Mummy Dogs at a Halloween party for adults, consider pairing them with a light, fruity wine that complements the savory flavors of the hot dogs and dough.

A Pinot Noir or a Beaujolais would be an excellent choice.

For those who prefer white wine, a chilled Sauvignon Blanc or a slightly oaky Chardonnay can provide a nice contrast to the richness of the dish.
